The "Return to Tiffany" collection, inspired by a keyring created in 1966, is easily the most recognizable of all the Tiffany creations. The Return to Tiffany® collection has been a symbol of Tiffany & Co. for nearly 60 years, originating in 1966 with key tags that featured the phrase "Please Return to Tiffany & Co. New York."
These key tags had unique registration numbers, ensuring the return of lost keys to the Tiffany flagship store. The collection quickly became associated with Tiffany's New York heritage and craftsmanship. In 1966, Tiffany introduced a heart-shaped tag in 14k yellow gold, priced at $11, followed by an oval tag in 1967 for $9.
By 1969, Tiffany had expanded the collection to include keychains reminiscent of modern chain bracelets. In 1980, Tiffany added a heart-shaped pendant with the Return to Tiffany® tag to their jewelry line. The 1997 version featured a sterling silver choker with an oval tag, but they removed the registration number, making the collection no longer functional.
However, the "Return to Tiffany" mark had already been transformed into a design element rather than a functional feature. By the 2000s, the Return collection had grown into a vast collection of rings, bracelets, necklaces, earrings, keyrings, and more in 18k gold or sterling silver.
Today, Tiffany has expanded the collection further with enamel additions and unique variations beyond the standard charms and link bracelets. Solid 18k gold Oval Return to Tiffany link necklaces and bracelets are the most desirable and valuable from the collection. However, any solid gold Return to Tiffany piece will have substantial resale value.
